We operate day in and day out with a mind and body that rely heavily upon each other for optimal function. Often times, the body is physically present, but the mind tends to be somewhere else. Mindfulness is a method that helps bridge the mind and body together with a greater sense of awareness. The skill of awareness and paying attention can lead to unlimited benefits to physical, mental, and emotional states of health. But most importantly, mindfulness brings us back to what has been forgotten about our basic human condition of BEING a human-being. MBSR is an opportunity to reclaim your health, balance, and connection to life.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8-week program that provides participants the tools to become more aware and present to their daily lives. MBSR is an opportunity to experience mindfulness and its direct benefits to health and well-being by paying attention to the present moment with a sense of curiosity and interest. Weekly classes are held Tuesday from 3:00p – 5:00p, and includes one Saturday all-day retreat.

BRIEF HISTORY

MBSR was created at UMASS Medical School and founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. Since then, over 25,000 people world-wide have completed the program, and the numbers continue to grow.  Mindfulness has become a buzz word in our society, and the evidence based research teachings have been integrated into mainstream medicine, medical, and professional education, corporations, school systems, athletics, inner city and correctional institutions. MBSR roots are derived from science, medicine, psychology, and complemented by various ancient wisdom and meditative traditions. MBSR is a secular practice that focuses on mindfulness meditation as a method to be applied directly into supporting the challenges and adventures of everyday life.
